Kansas City Star reporter Rustin Dodd reported the news on Saturday Royals manager Ned Yost made the announcement that former Atlanta Braves right handed starting pitcher Kris Medlen will be the team's fifth starting pitcher in the 2016 baseball season.
Medlen will not be pitching during the Opening Day week for the 2016 since the defending World Series champions will have a lot of off days during the first week of the baseball season.
Medlen pitched for the Atlanta Braves from 2009-2013 before he underwent Tommy John surgery to repair an injury to his right elbow during the 2014 baseball season.
Medlen signed a two year, $8 5 million dollar guaranteed contract before the start of the 2015 baseball season. His contract does have a mutual option for the 2017 baseball season.
Left handed pitcher Danny Duffy who was in line to be the fifth starting pitcher for the Royals in the 2016 baseball season will be working as a relief pitcher and spot starter for the defending World Series champions in 2016.

Despite being world champs, KC is actually thin in the starting pitching department. Surprised Medlen gets the nod over Duffy but maybe he's got something. Remember how Chris Young revived his career in KC.

You are correct. The Royals do have a pretty good bullpen but I did not know that the starting pitching of their team is not exactly going to strike fear into their opponents.
