Day 8 Psalm 8 Psalm 8:1 < O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Who hast set thy glory above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou might still the enemy and the avenger. 3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that thou visit him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honor. 6 Thou made him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: 7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; 8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passes through the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! Is there any more wonderful name than the name of Jesus our Savior? When Moses met God at the burning bush, he asked God what his name was, and God answered I AM that I AM. Do you know the names of God, and what they mean? El, Eloah – God – Mighty, Strong, Prominent Elohim – God – Creator El Shaddai – God Almighty Adonai – Lord YHWH, Yahweh, Jehovah – LORD Jehovah – Jireh – The Lord will provide Jehovah Rapha – The Lord who heals Jehovah Nissi – The Lord our banner Jehovah M’Kaddesh – The Lord who sanctifies, makes holy Jehovah Shalom – The Lord our Peace Jehovah Elohim – LORD God Jehovah Tsidkenu – The Lord our Righteousness Jehovah Rohi – The Lord our Shepherd Jehovah Shammah – The Lord is there Jehovah Sabaoth – The Lord of Hosts El Elyon – God Most High El Roi – God is seeing El Olam – Everlasting God El Gibhor – Mighty God (GotQuestions?org) These are just a few of the many names of God and what they mean. As you can see they describe the many facets of who God is, his character. When you put all that together, is it any wonder David said his name was excellent? And yet infants and children can grasp it in such a way that it leaves us speechless with wonder, awe, and praise. When we consider all God has done, his creation and our place in it, we shake our heads in amazement. Why would God, our Creator, place us in his hierarchy just below the angels? Why would he entrust his creation to us, giving us dominion over every creature and everything he made? Didn’t he realize we are destructive and we would try to destroy instead of take care of his creation, and each other? Yes, God knew all about us from the moment he created all things. Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: 4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. (KJV) Not only did God know us, but he also knew we would need a Savior to bring us back into fellowship with him. Even before God created our first parents – Adam and Eve, he knew he would need to send Jesus to redeem us from the bondage of sin. It is no accident you were born when you were born, or to whom you were born. 1 Peter 1:17 And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judges according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: 18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, 21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. Through the Holy Spirit, David had a glimpse of God, his nature. David’s humanity and frailties could not exclaim sufficiently the total majesty and perfection of God and what he purposed for us – our salvation through his Son. He could only exclaim, O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! As Christians, we rejoice in our salvation, we look to the cross and the empty tomb and we fall on our knees in worship and praise, for who are we that he would be mindful of us? As you consider the names of God, and the fulfillment of God’s promise to you in sending a Savior to redeem you from your sins, take time to give him all the praise and honor, which only belong to him. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for placing me a little lower than the angels and crowning me with glory and strength. Help me realize and understand the message of the cross and your love for me in dying for me and cleansing me from all my sins. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. The son of man is also the word. I always find this association to be rather mysterious. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God. The word is God. John 1:1, always puzzled me. It feels to go beyond the description of Jesus' divinity,

@just4him I always wondered if the father, the son, and the spirit are different expression of the same being. We see this in nature a lot, water is, liquid, gas, and solid. If we look at these three separately, we'd think they are not the same, as they are different. Yet they are the same in essence.

So true, but think about it this way. During Creation God spoke the Word and everything came into being. Therefore the Word - Jesus - was also active in Creation. God also said Let US make man in OUR image after OUR likeness. So not only God the Father was active in creation but also Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
