NBC news reported that there have been several deaths and a lot of close calls related to Keyless Ignition Systems in cars. Currently there are 245 models where it is standard and another 31 cars where it is optional.
It must be nice to be able to push a button to start a car but it's another thing to 'remember' to push it again when you get out of it, to shut it off. These systems have been in fancy-shmancy cars since the mid 1990's but have become more prevalent in all brands of cars today.
The main problem with this device is that if you park your car in your garage, you have the extreme likelihood of leaving it running and causing carbon monoxide to fill your garage and home and kill you and your family.
There have been a lot of lawsuits filed against the manufacturers because there is no warning alarm to indicate you've left the car running. What it really comes down to though is you as the car owner.
Get off the dang cell phone; get your head out of your butt; and pay attention.
Safety advocates say cars with keyless ignition systems are killing and injuring people when their engines are inadvertently left running.

folks ne'er seem to wish to take the responsibility fer their actions, do they? sigh... i reckon they ought to put a timer'n those gadgets - one that automatically shuts the car off if'n it remains idle fer a certain 'mount'f time.
i'm still kinda ticked off ya can't purchase'n auto with windows ya gotta roll up manually.

A timer would be a great idea @crazyhoreladycx . That's why I love my 2000 Saturn; I roll up the windows manually. It's been a great car too. Outside of regular maintenance, the only things I've had to replace was a crank-shaft sensor, a battery and a belt and that's been over the last 16 years.

This is not an option we would ever want to have.

Me either @AbbyGreenhill . Today's cars are so dang automated as it is. I have a 2000 Saturn where you still have to "roll down the windows" with the handle. And I like that just the way it is.

@AbbyGreenhill My sister has a car with power windows. She's had to replace the motor twice on the driver's door.

@nanette64 when my wife and I were in Missouri about a month ago we rented a car and it was the keyless kind. I agree with you I didn't care for it. My wife forgot to push the button just about everytime she was to shut it off. A real pain in the butt.

Every now and again I like to write about something that affects people and this is truly a dangerous situation @Hatley .

Luckily I don't have one of these cars or a garage for that matter since I am often distracted and I am quite sure I would forget to shut it off.

I wouldn't care to have that feature in my car.

oh yes, I can hardly wait for all the disasters that will come when self-driving cars hit the road. give me a car with a manual transmission and all the manual stuff I can get, please. I'd rather be interactive with my car than to learn all the helplessness and absentmindedness that comes along with machines doing my thinking for me.

I'm 100% with you @blitzfrick . All this fancy stuff is another reason why most people can't work on their own cars anymore too.
