The Chicago Cubs on Tuesday have re-signed 35 year old outfielder Shane Victorino to a minor league contract after they released him earlier the same day. Victorino who signed a minor league contract with the Cubs on February 26, 2015 after he entered the free agent market on November 2, 2015 after his contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim expired. Victorino only played in four games during the Spring training sessions in 2016 due to an injury in his left calf that did not heal in time to allow him to join his teammates on Opening Day 2016. Victorino will have be spending his time in a rehabilitation assignment in Arizona for at least one month before he will be assigned to play baseball for the Iowa Cubs which is the AAA affiliate of the Chicago Cubs at the start of the 2016 baseball season until the Cubs can bring him up later in the baseball season. Victorino has two World Series rings with the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies and the 2013 Boston Red Sox. Victorino has played in the Major Leagues with the San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim since he made his debut in the Major Leagues in 2003 with the Padres.

I can see the Cubs want him for his veteran leadership down the stretch. A mentor with two rings for all those young players.

Shane wants a third ring and he believes he can be helpful with the Cubs this year even it is in a reserve role.

He's a good player, but he's been around for awhile.
