CSNChicago.com reporter Dan Hayes reported the news on Tuesday Chicago White Sox manager Robin Ventura has named former Philadelphia Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins his Opening Day shortstop. Rollins, 37, signed a minor league contract on February 22, 2016 after he became a free agent at the end of the 2015 baseball season when the Los Angeles Dodgers decided to let him test the free agent market. Rollins had a batting average of .354 with four home runs and 13 runs batted in 48 at bats during the Spring training sessions in 2016. Rollins will be paid a salary of $2 million dollars since he made the White Sox 25 man roster. Tyler Saladino will serve as the backup shortstop during the 2016 baseball season since Rollins will get the majority of playing time during the next baseball season. One advantage Rollins will have playing with the White Sox in 2016 is that U S Cellular Field which is the home stadium of the American League Central Division team is that it will be easier for Rollins to improve on his batting average of .224 that he had with the Los Angeles Dodgers during the 2015 baseball season.

This guy tore it up during spring training. Did he tap into the fountain of youth or once the real deal begins, will Rollins be the disaster he was with the Dodgers?

We will all find out when the baseball season begins if Rollins still has what it takes to be a star player or if Spring training was a fluke.

He played for the Phillies from the start of his career until 2014 when he played one season with the Dodgers in 2015.
