For as much as I love Wilton baking products I really wonder why they discontinue things after one or two seasons especially when those things are strong sellers. The Mad Science Ice Cube Mold (Wilton 570-0269) is a silicone tray mold that's used to make colorful and creepy cubes for your Halloween creations.
The shapes that you can make and decorate with this mold include:
SKULL: A nice, slightly creepy looking skull that has accented eyes and teeth. If you want to make them colored you are going to have to use something to paint in the eyes first otherwise it might just look like a blob in your drink.
EYEBALL: One of the things that I love about this is you can use cut pieces of licorice to make the bloodshot accents if you want. Even when done plain, the eyeball ice cubes do look cool in a drink.
TEST TUBES: There are two styles of test tubes / beakers; one tall thin one and one that's got a rectangular shape to it. You can add small piece of cut up fruit (canned works best) to the cavities of the test tubes to give them some detail if you want.
WORMS: If you have any gummy worms and they are thin enough, you can put them inside the mold then fill the cavity with some fruit juice or punch. These look great in short squat glasses because you have them standing upright and sticking out of the top of the drink instead of in the liquid.
You can use plain water in the mold or a powdered drink mix if you want something with a strong color. I made a couple batches of sugar free gelatin in this mold and really liked the shapes but if you are going to do that you need to reduce the amount of water that you are using so that the pieces do not rip or tear when you are removing them from the mold or moving them. Use a toothpick to remove stubborn gelatin pieces and wash the mold as soon as possible after using with anything that is colored to prevent it from staining the inside of the cavities.
