My dads garage got broken into again

Stopped by my dads place today and found out overnight his garage got ransacked again. This happened about six months ago. Six months ago someone mysteriously got in (no signs of forced entry) stole a mechanic scanner tool, a guitar, a jar of pennies and a case of beer. This time the jar of pennies was stolen (again). My dads truck was rifled through. AND about $80 stolen from this monthly game my dad and his friends play. I guess I should explain that this is his little man cave where him and his buddies hang out, drink beer and watch TV on a daily basis. A lot of people - all trusted or mostly trusted - come in and visit. They had $80 in an inconspicous bucket that was hidden behind several things. It seems to strange to me that the burglar would KNOW that he had money in this unmarked jar placed behind several things. AND the other $50 in the same jar left untouched. This makes me feel like it is someone he knows....inside job? Maybe I am overthinking this completely. Either way it sucks! Has your garage gotten broken into ever?

we dont own a garage and this never happened to us.. thats very unfortunate.. seems to me that its an inside job unless it was done by a highly expert burglar who doesnt leave marks and know where to look.

I know right! Just seems strange about the money thing that has me suspicious. Otherwise - i grew up in the area and just recently moved away - there really wasnt that much crime!!

@maezee Yes how does this particular person know all the spots? To me it sounds all very suspicious!

That's unfortunate. Perhaps he should have some security cameras installed. I'm glad your dad didn't come in contact with the thieves.

Thats what I was suggesting. He doesnt have much money but it seems like it would be worth it. I am glad he is safe too. Thats really what counts right?

could very well be an inside job,or someone that knows told someone, you need a security camera in there. It is sad you can't have anything without people stealing.

After reading your post, I can say it's inside job. Hope the money and other things that were stolen will be recovered soonest.

I don't have a garage but it sounds like this man cave of your dads is pretty cool. I bet his friends love having a place they can go to get together like that. That is horrible that it has gotten broken into again. People are so cruel. It does sound like an inside job to me as well. How sad that your dad is so kind to allow others to come over and spend time in his garage and then someone does this. I hope he installs a video surveillance system after this.

I am glad that no one was harmed or injured here. however it is very uncomfortable to actually experience this the second time. What do you think actually happened. I mean how could it be that there's no forced entry on both occassions? I don't suppose your dad had forgotten to lock up on both occassions. From what you've described I find it disturbing that the thief could find your dad's stashaway without much ransacking and I am wondering that either this thief could have hacked into your dad's home security system to view your dad's activities at home or it is some inside job. I am just guessing here but I believe your dad would need to be alert and think of new ways to discourage any one of considering his garage as a target of another attempt to breakin.

It does sound like an inside job. If it's inconspicuous, and the money was still taken then it might very well be! It might even be the same person as before. If it were me, I'd hate to find out that it was one of my 'trusted' friends. If people needed money, they could always ask. Instead of breaking in, and breaking trusts.

Either its someone who knows where everything is or it is one lucky burglar who needs to play the lotto since they found it all so easily. Either way I'm sorry it happened, its awful being stolen from.

Someone came into our garage and stole my bicycle years ago. It may have been broken into before that, but that was too long ago to remember.

No when I had one. I never had anything anybody would want. That's awful that someone would do something like that. I don't think you're overthinking it at all. It sounds like someone your dad knows and probably hangs out with him in his man cave garage. I'd ask him to move the money into the house when he leaves the garage so it won't be stolen again and not in view of his friends.
