I don't ask why. I just do it all or die. If the writer of this book had any imagination my life as it is, would be in the middle of the story where I am at a crossroads, looking ahead and seeing a fork in the road. I go forward, pick up the fork and realize it is stainless steel. I take it home and clean it and eat my fork tender chicken and noodles with it. The metaphor for a fork in the middle of the road has a different meaning of course, but you all know that one so I wanted to be funny that's all.
