Today Is A Soldier's Favorite Day

Do you know why? Considering the years I spent in the Army were some of the most formative years of my life I am puzzled that I haven't written more stories with characters in the Army. My first books mention a grandfather who served in WWI, and my main character joins the Navy out of a sense of noblese oblige, but his time in the Navy is mentioned in the books through reference and flashbacks, not while it was happening. Two of the supporting characters in my second series are Iraq and Afghanistan vets. One was a Marine Corps officer and the other an Army Ranger. But again, their service predates the events in the books. I will have to take a hard look at why this is. Oh, and the answer to why today is a soldier's favorite day. Because today is the end of a 31 day march, of course.

Clever DW..the end of the march. Yes you could look into writing about that the service ..think it is a great idea.

I have started many times to do just that. Perhaps I should take all those notes and short stories and pull them together into a novel. Only thing is, it might not be appropriate for all ages.

I learned that joke when I was a Cub Scout and that was a long time ago. I think it has been out of circulation for many, many years.

@DWDavis - That old of a joke. And I've never heard it. You'd think I would have. Weird.

@teamfreak16 Have you heard the joke about Prince Albert in a can? It may be the joke was not being told anymore by the time you were old enough to start remembering jokes. I'm assuming you are somewhat younger than I am.

I salute their service, and yours, for the families of those who man the front lines also serve. If I may ask, what are their occupational specialties. I was an infantryman and mortar crewman.

I remember that joke from when I was in Cub Scouts with Tommy Jefferson and Georgie Washington and Mr. Franklin was our Pack Leader.

I prefer to call them Corny Jokes. Most of them I remember from my days as a Cub Scout. A bad joke is one you have to explain to a non-blond person.
