Ok, like a year. This was a few days ago. Over the years Ive acquired several electric and acoustics, nothing fancy. But I fell off the wagon with this hobby so to speak as of last year. Now I am getting back into it. And feel like Ive taken 8 steps back musically. It feels like when you have learned a language but havent studied it (which I have also done.)
What I did notice is the pain I felt in my finger tips and the pain in my wrist for a few days after. The fingertip pain I expect - your fingers simply arent used to pushing down on frets like that. The wrist pain came as a surprise.
The second thing Ive noticed is that I was able to remember several songs once I started playing them. Not all of them, but apparently a few. Which is cool.
Any guitar players out there? Had you taken a hiatus and what did you experience coming back into it? And while we are on the topic - what is your most favorite song to play or what are you learning now?

As soon as I saw the title of this article, I KNEW you were going to mention your sore fingertips. The same thing happened to me. I recently purchased a new guitar and I'm determined to play again. My 15 year old grandson wants to learn to play.

Good for you! Its an awful feeling right? Especially when you are playing hard acoustic strings. Glad that you are picking it back up again. I think the wrist pain I have is from trying to play faster music than my body wants. How is it going? Do you find yourself remembering anything you used to know or do you feel like you are starting from scratch?

@maezee Yes, first the blisters and eventually the calluses will form, but in the meantime its all I can do to place my fingertips on the strings. I remember all the chords but its slow going. I'm basically starting from scratch, I guess. My grandson is having a difficult time also placing his finger correctly on the strings.

It can be learned, though my brother tried to teach me, but I wasn't so inspired not even to play the key board. my eldest brother play guitar on their choir.
