Being Right Makes You Lose Friends

It is common to see Facebook posts that need some "editing" because of the terrible grammar or the way they write about proper nouns which should start with a capital letter. The "writer" in you wanted you to correct/edit it, like when they spell God as god which has different connotations based on the capitalization used; lower case or upper case. Do you call their attention or just let it be because you might get negative feedback or lose friends.

It's Facebook. No need for proper spelling or grammar. Posts are more like text shorthand.

I am just concerned when relatives do it; like posting with very wrong grammar; and when they mentioned God, as god.

Just forget about the grammar or whatever mistakes. They probably type it on their phone, and it is hard enough to type out. Anyway they are not writing for income. They just want to share something.

Ok for little mistakes or error in spelling, but for some bigger ones, I can't but sigh specially if the one who posted it has been consistent with that error! anyway, I just ignore and don't argue.

Yes, I don't correct them too; I just ignore though my hand is itching to make a comment about it.

Correcting them in public might bring them humiliation most especially if the person who posted the topic is a sensitive one. Although the intention is good, we can never assume that everyone will accept public corrections with an open mind. I would rather send the person a private message provided that we know each other very much.

I think if you try to correct them at the right moment then there is no question of losing friends. I generally prefer to correct them in our private chat where I think even they feel good that someone is concerned about me and my reputation on social media and would surely accept my suggestion with no negatives.
