Oh sleep schedules

As a person in their 20s I am a victim of having no sleep schedule. I think each week is different and I have no control over it. Last week my boyfriend and I would stay up until 1pm and wake up at around 10pm. Sometimes I would stay up until 8am and wake up at 3pm. This week apparently I am going to bed at 7pm and awake at 3am. Which isn't too bad. I have tried many things to help my sleeping but nothing works. I think that has to do with that I have no priorities in my life. Even so...When I did have a job or I would go to school they sleep schedule was still messed up. I guess as long as I'm not missing anything important then I guess I will forever sleep when I can.

when I was young my mother let us take a nap after lunch and i wondered about that. Now that I'm a mother I did the same to my son before he started going to school and I asked his paediatrician regarding that. AcCording to the child doctor, sleeping at a certain time is really important because there are growth hormones that develop only during those hours! So she explained that taking a nap in the afternoon was good for growing children and sleeping at night was for the brain development. In my case I make sure I get the night sleep or I won't function well during the day. Sleeping during the day gives me a headache.

@DesirousDreamer right and having those problems just don't give you the right sleeping cycle.

@toniganzon Yeah, but it doesn't really prevent me from doing anything. Which I am okay with.

I have had insomnia since I was a baby really. I have never been able to sleep properly, my doctor told me it is because of my bipolar disorder WHICH makes a lot of sense. Depression and such can screw up sleep cycles and the hormonal imbalance I have makes it impossible to fix. We all function differently.

I don't really sleep much now either. I get home from work at 8pm at night and in bed by 10. On weekends it's different if i go out i go to bed late if not I'm in bed by 10. I wake up all hours of the night though as I toss and turn alot. I never get a full 8 hours sleep at times.

As long as you get used to, I think its ok at least you get some sleep, my friend. I also did not sleep for the past 10 years, I was not getting energy to do things when I was 16 till 25 years old. Its because of depression and schizophrenia that make things worse. Now I am getting sleep at least 10 hours a day which is quite much than enough. It is also because of the medicines I consume that makes me sleepy and fat.

Yeah my bipolar disorder is what causes my sleep patterns to be really funky. But at least I am getting things done and I am still able to sleep I don't think it matters much.

This is what most of the people in 20's cope up with. They really try to come over it but they can't. Its all because of the habits they posess. someday they're up for a movie till 2-3 am next day waking up at 10-11 am. And what we think that 8 hours sleep is enough. but when we acutally get up at that time we find ourself exhausted, aimless. in order to maintain this and keeping the mind in right state. one needs to sleeps early and wake up early. you can't imagine how managed your life will be , and the control you will be having over your life , once you make your inhabitant of waking up early .

Mine has been like this since I was little and I'm pretty sure it is staying this way because of medical reasons. Others it is because they don't really have priorities going on so might as well just stay up all night and sleep all day haha

My daughter's sleep schedule is whacked. She stays up late and sleeps later in the morning. Now that she has a baby, she sleeps when she can.

From what I read from your post, you still manage to get at least 8 hour sleep despite the different time you sleep. It seems your biological clock can adjust to the erratic schedule with no adverse affect on you.
