I have been reading some of Haruki Murakami's earlier works. In one of those books, he mentions Greeks as a reference for some of the most enduring works of art. To create such masterful works, according to Murakami, the Greeks relied on slaves to do the menial work, so their scholars and artists will have the luxury of pursuing their ideas. It'??s very bourgeois and yet there is some truth to it. If we are to place merit on Maslow'??s contested hierarchy of needs, then it is logical to say that in order for individuals to self-actualize the lower needs must be met, and the faster way to do it is to rely on others to fulfill those needs a shelter, security self-esteem; a fervent supporter of your cause.
