I failed

I failed When I was at school I failed because I hate schools much in the last years I was there and left soon as I could. I left school a 16 with almost next to nothing in grades. I totally regret it now. When I did left school I always had a job and I did stay in the same job or be it working for the same company for 27 years until I had an accident. The accident was my escape from the job I had begun to hate so much. I had others plans however after a few years it didn’t work out. Now although I do earn something from online, I’m job hunting. Now with all the zero grades I got in school I’m finding it hard to find work. Over the last month or so I’ve been doing courses to pull up my grades which have been great yet hard. I’m currently doing English and to be honest I can’t do it. I been set some homework this weekend and although I looked at it and have started doing, I just don’t get it. I’m thinking of going in one Monday and saying I’m going to leave the course, I never thought it would be so hard. I guess it’s being out of the education system for so long to why I’m finding it hard. What would you do? I know my tutor who is really good and will do everything possible to keep me learning and working towards the exam on Friday. I feel I’ve set myself up to fail. English was never my strong point. I guess I could leave the course and then maybe go back to it another time.

I think you can do it, I'd stick with it longer and get some more help, drop out later if you need too. You write so well that, that I think you have it in you. Some people learn differently, you may need a different way of learning the materials. What's the homework?

I have two test papers to do which are the hardest. They just tests to see how I would go in the exam. I have an 8-12 minutes powerpoint presentation to do (half done). I need to research either the Moon landing, 911 or JFF conspiracies and write 3,000 words. I decided on the Moon one and written so much of it. It's just the test papers I'm having problems dealing with. Both my sons have done the course at school, so I'm going to get one or both to show me how or what I need to do. I think what really worries me the more is the questions themselves and the time in which you have to so it all. I think once I fully understand it all and how to work it only then I will be ok. I think if I had more time instead of just next week I would be happier. It was the same for the Math paper, however I did have more time and I think I did well but not yet get the result from that exam. The English one is different because it's also based on group discussions too. I'm fine writing here because I can take my time and if I make mistakes it's ok.

@kevin1877uk I think you are overstressing it. If you do bad, then there is always the chance to do it again later yes? Think of this whole class as round one practice! And deff talk to your kids.

If I were you I would continue with the English and the tutor as sometimes it just seems that when you think you can't do something is when you show them you can do it.

That is true you never no, it's not one exam, it's two, one Monday afternoon and one Friday, we have a group discussion where we are marked for what we do and than I have a powerpoint presentation to finish off.

I think for me it would maybe be hard but interesting. I'd try focusing on a successful end result. You can do it!

Sometimes if I get away from a problem and go back to it, it's not as hard as I originally thought. That said, if you really cannot do it, probably best to pull out of the class, and do something else.

I agree and I know that if you do go way from something you can't do and go back later you often can do it.

I think you should continue and go give that exam, because then the fear will be eliminated. Even if you don't score anything you took the first step and there is always a next time. So don't hesitate. Failure is a stepping stone to success. So keep up with however much you can and don't quit, because that is when you will start asking yourself what if I had gone/ what if I had continued. Don't leave any room for future what iffs

Please don't give up. You are so close! I know it isn't easy but you seem very intelligent to me and I don't see why you shouldn't try taking the exams first. You are right that you could leave it and come back to it another time but with less than a week to go to the exam, it might just be anxiety - your English is pretty good on here and you are able to express ideas clearly. Keeping you in my thoughts and wishing you the best!
