Top 10 Bad Brains Songs #9 - "Attitude"

A couple of people I follow here on MyLot have done a Top Ten Favorite Songs by a favorite artist series: @JohnRoberts did an excellent Linda Ronstadt list, while @FourWalls chipped in with a great Elton John list. Last night I figured I'd jump in with what I was listening to at that moment, which was Washington D.C. hardcore band Bad Brains. The classic Bad Brains lineup (vocalist H.R., guitarist Dr. Know, bassist Darryl Jennifer, and drummer Earl Hudson,) a group of devout Rastafarian's, formed in the late 1970's, becoming a leader of the same D.C. hardcore scene that gave us the legendary Minor Threat. In addition to hardcore punk, however, the band was equally adept at reggae, which has thrown many a listener for a loop. I like to play both styles for uninitiated friends in a "this is the same band" sort of thing. Clocking in at a scant 1:19 (and you thought Ramones songs were short,) "Attitude" is pure, unadulterated hardcore, loud, high-energy punk aimed straight at the mosh pit (not to mention, nonstop stage diving.) "Attitude" is from Bad Brains' classic, self-titled 1982 debut, a classic hardcore record (although, at first, in the spirit of punk, it was only available on cassette) that more than stands tall amongst its peers. (The album was reissued in 1989 as Attitude: The ROIR Sessions, in case you're looking.

Gotta love a band called Bad Brains. The good ol' punk days. Reggae influence seems to be absent these days.

I know, which is too bad. The Clash, Sublime, 311 all did it so well. I'd hope more bands would use it.

They are my cup of tea and hope that does not ruin your post. Now people are going to be, well if crossbones likes them.... In all seriousness, that is great name for one of their songs. That is pretty much every song they ever wrote. Nothing, but attitude. Have to have the PMA

Do you think your top ten changes. I have been tempted to write one, but my list alters on an almost daily basis.
