Bob Nightengale of USA Sports reported the news on Monday the Cleveland Indians have purchased the minor league contract of former New York Yankees relief pitcher Joba Chamberlain from the Columbus Clippers which is the AAA minor league affiliate of the Indians.
The Indians have designated for assignment outfielder James Ramsey to make room for Chamberlain on their 40 man roster.
Chamberlain has pitched in the Major Leagues for the New York Yankees from 2007-2013, the Detroit Tigers from 2014-2015 and the Kansas City Royals in 2015.
Chamberlain was designated for assignment by the Royals on the first game of the 2015 World Series versus the New York Mets.
Chamberlain signed a minor league contract with the Cleveland Indians on December 1, 2015. Chamberlain impressed the Indians during his work during Spring training in 2016 to make the Opening Day roster.
The Indians are not going to have Chamberlain pitch as a set up or closer for their team in 2016 since his best pitching days as a member of the Yankees and Tigers are done.
Chamberlain will most likely be working a middle or long relief pitcher in 2016 for the American League Central Division team.

And he showed such promise with the Yankees. He was supposed to be the next big thing.

@Deepizzaguy - Goose Gossage is from here. There is a park named for him, I ride my bike though it all the time.

@teamfreak16 I did not know that. I admired his work as a relief pitcher. You did not to get him angry if you disrespected him when you a home run off of him.

He could have been the successor to Mariano Rivera as their closer had he not been injured.
