I would like to know where they have a serve yourself sandwich place.

Every time I go into a Subway sandwich place I have to get them to make it. I would sometimes like it if I could go somewhere besides home, to pick out all of the ingredients that go into making the perfect sandwich.
A sandwich shop that has a greater variety of ingredients to choose from. The only main thing would be they would require you pick out the ingredients from a display, while the food preparation persons, would then let you pay for your ingredients then go to your table where you would be allowed to assemble your sandwich.
The main thing is, you, the customer, would not be able to just go and pick it out by hand because of the basic rules of public sanitation that is required in any public restaurant to keep the public from being exposed to cross-contamination of prepared meals.

Besides home huh?
Let's see.. Neighbors, Mother's, Mother In Law's, Grandmother's, Grandmother in law's, ex wife's (but I wouldn't tell the missus) ...
In all seriousness, I think the could get away with a serve yourself sandwich shop by going buffet style and using tongs and the such for all meats cheeses and veggies.

I really had this idea from a local Fresh Market self serve deli. And at one time not long ago, Wendy's had a self service salad bar and many people got their hands in it and because of a health report they removed it because some people used their bare hands instead of tongs as you mentioned in your response.

@lookatdesktop There is always someone out there to spoil it for the rest of them. Perhaps there could be a go between. You go to the line and they put the veggies and cheeses you'd want on a separate plate and each condiment you might want would be on the tables where you'd sit. You could get the bread from the same line as the veggies. You assemble it yourself but they hand over the veggies and such and let you do the work of assembling it.

It may very well be best in many cases to just make them at home. But when out I just don't like having someone else make my sandwiches. I have had a hard time finding sit down deli shops that custom make sandwiches when there are just so many ways to ruin a sandwich when doing it for someone else instead of doing it your way for your own self. lol. Have you ever gone to a diner and ordered it one way and received your order their way instead?
