A stranger came a knocking at our front door ... at 6 am?

I just don't wake up that easy. If someone is knocking at our front door at 6 am I forgetabout it.
If it was urgent they should just have called 911.
I am not in the habit of running to the phone nor the front door at this early hour.
If I had a dog he would have barked until I woke up of course. Some kind of built in alarm system many are using these days.

It's really hard if you are not a morning person.

I am kind of but then I don't always hear it when a person bangs on our door when I am fast asleep.

@lookatdesktop I would never answer either but I'd hope to get a glimpse from the peephole or something to be alert.

No way of knowing. Whoever knocked at the front door had left long before I woke up and was told about this. My wife never answers the phone late at night if nobody identifies themselves or leaves any messages and in our neighborhood answering the front door early morning or late night is a dangerous thing.

It is always best to be safe in this type of situation. Even if it was a food package special delivery from Figis or Harry and David.

My brother lives a block from me but would usually call first. I had a moment years ago when a hysterical lady wanted to get in our house to call to get a ride saying her car broke down and she had two big dudes waiting on the sidewalk for us to open our front door so they could get inside our house and probably kill us.

It happens ever so often in my city in my neighborhood. On my block even. I only hope it wasn't a prize delivery from Harry and David. lol.

I have been following your exploits as you have written them and presented them to us (at various sites). It sounds like you need to just plain get out of there, Anthony! Pack up and leave and find a peaceful, convenient place.

I might do this in the near future, as the situation at my domicile has increasingly become nearly intolerable. What places do you suggest, Vincent? For you the idea of pulling up stakes may sound simple but to me this would indeed be a monumental undertaking.

@KuznVinny I have thought about this at times. But I have a house that I am co-owner of, that of my parent's house. They left it as a life estate to my older brother. When he passes the division of assets will be paid from the sale of the house of my parents and divided equally among my sisters and other brother. I will have to clean out the house, fix it up before selling it. The money from that house after it is sold will be evenly divided but my part of the inheritance will be used to bury me. Any remaining amount will probably go toward paying off previous accumulated debts of my older brother. That would depend on if he doesn't take care of his debts during his lifetime.

@lookatdesktop No thoughts as to where, though some oldsters prefer Florida. It would be tough for me as well, but if I lived under the kinds of conditions you've reported on, I'd take up the challenge.

It would be a bit odd to have someone do this. Who would be out and about at that time knocking on doors? No one we know, so would release the hounds...maybe. Sounds mean, doesn't it?
