Electoral College, Delegates and My puny little vote... US Elections

I think this years primary elections in the United States are bringing out the good, the bad and the truly ugly. In this country, I think most have been told we have one of the most free and best election processes in the world.
I keep hearing about how the candidates on both side are hoping to upset the popular vote on the convention floor. What a sad day when I see the news cover the elderly voter who stands in a long line to make their voice heard. I think any of us wants to believe that every single vote counts.
Does the possibility that the "will of the people" at least the majority can be set asunder bother anyone else? It is not like this is the first time it could happen...just look at Hillary or Al Gore.
Is the system broken or do we have to wait and see what the delegates decide.
