To find out if this site is a good one I placed an order online to get a part for my Caddy.
It is a simple part that costs about 30 dollars. It is an electrical switch to control the up and down of the trunk pull down motor of our 95 Cadillac Seville SLS. I was going to try to see if the ACDELCO part number was listed at Amazon as many parts are, but no luck. They only had the entire pull down motor and assembly for about 230.00, but the shipping and handling and insurance cost a bit extra, of course it always does!
I already bought the motor and had it installed. The problem, according to a friend who is a qualified auto mechanic with years of experience, was the switch.
After removing the wire connector to the motor and disconnecting the switch, as it did not work after installing the motor, and using the old switch, it appeared only the switch had gone bad, meaning the old motor might be still good so I can keep it as a backup.
I ordered the part online at a place called partsgeek.com and the money from my checking was debited in under 10 minutes from the moment I finished completing the online order process.
I looked online for reviews of this site and their pros and cons and came up with a lot of bad reviews. But there actually were also a lot of very good reviews.
The bottom line is, I will be happy if I get my part and it is the right part and it is new and not damaged and it does not get lost in shipping. I will be upset if not. But hey, Sometimes you have to trust the middle man because car parts are not all available via Amazon, Autozone or Rockauto or Walmart. These retailers both online and offline, are all good but there are sometimes parts that can only be bought either by trusting an unknown site as partsgeek is to me not those who deal with them on a regular basis, or the alternative, that is, getting a used part from a wrecking yard.
I don't like looking for an electrical part from a wrecking yard as these parts set for years and are never tested and they come off cars that either were in a wreck or were old an in bad need of repair. Not to say there are no good parts there either. I prefer getting my car parts new is all.
