Day 21 Psalm 21 Psalm 21:1 < The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice! 2 Thou hast given him his heart’s desire, and hast not with held the request of his lips. Selah. 3 For thou prevent him with the blessings of goodness: thou set a crown of pure gold on his head. 4 He asked life of thee, and thou gave it him, even length of days forever and ever. 5 His glory is great in thy salvation: honor and majesty hast thou laid upon him. 6 For thou hast made him most blessed forever: thou hast made him exceeding glad with thy countenance. 7 For the king trusts in the LORD, and through the mercy of the Most High he shall not be moved. 8 Thine hand shall find out all thine enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee. 9 Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thine anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them. 10 Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men. 11 For they intended evil against thee: they imagined a mischievous device, which they are not able to perform. 12 Therefore shalt thou make them turn their back, when thou shalt make ready thine arrows upon thy strings against the face of them. 13 Be thou exalted, LORD, in thine own strength: so will we sing and praise thy power. When things go well for us, it’s easy to praise God and give him thanks for all he’s done for us. However, we need to remember to praise him when our enemy surrounds us and we have nowhere to turn except to God. When God brings about the victory in our lives, our songs of praise will be more significant and honorable to God. David praised God all the time, when he was in great trouble from his enemies, from Saul, from Absalom, and from the Philistines. He felt God’s hand on him throughout his life, even when he faltered and sinned with Bathsheba. When God forgave David, he told him a son would sit on his throne forever. No one received a greater honor than what was given to David. Abraham was a friend of God, but to David he gave the kingdom and from him our Savior would be born, and his kingdom will know no end. What trials do you face? Do you praise God or complain to him about your woes? Are your troubles greater than David’s or Job’s? Are they greater than what our Lord faced before his crucifixion? If they are not greater, there is no reason not to give God praise for taking you through and bringing about victory in your life. Psalm 34:1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. (KJV) 1 Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. (KJV) Jesus told his disciples to cross over to the other side of the lake. When he came to them, walking on the water, a storm rose up so that Peter, who had asked to come to him on the water, feared he would drown, and cried out to Jesus to save him. Matthew 14:22 And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. 30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore did thou doubt? 32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased. David praised God because he knew God was the only one who would bring about the victories in his life. God was the only one who would bring about salvation, and he knew that when God promised his kingdom would last forever, he believed him, and gave him praise for all God had done and would do. We face many trials and problems in our lives every day. Some are small annoyances, and some are insurmountable. Yet, when we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ to see us through the storms in our lives, just as David did. We too will cross safely to the other side. We will come through the storm, and our praise will mount to heaven, just as David’s psalms of praise did. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for going before me into every battle and trial I face with Satan. Help me to trust you to bring about the victories and go in your strength and not my own. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 9 April 2016 by Valerie Jean Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
