A Silent Wish

I always watch a local TV show at ABS CBN called Salamat Dok (Thank you Doc ) on Saturdays while doing my dancing and zumba in our bedroom , while husband is still sleeping in bed . It is actually having a free medical mission and they also have a segment wherein the doctor would go to poor sick people who cannot afford to consult a doctor much more buy medicines . My heart goes out to those people and would feel so happy and teary eyed to see the doctor give them free check-up and medicines and also fruits and foods . The TV network would also give them a sack of rice . They also send them to the hospital for free medical check up that is necessary . And each time I see that show , I have a silent wish in my heart for my daughter graduating in Medicine this May , to also do that charity work in the future . And when she does , it would seem it is me giving medical help also . Just sharing my silent wish .

Whether your daughter does charity work or not, she will still be helping people. You can be justly proud.

Well I think you need to "un-silent" your wish. Broach the idea. I'm sure she will also find it a worthwhile activity. Hey congratulations! Sending your daughter to medical school is a huge accomplishment, I'm sure.

I don't like to let her know my silent wish yet . Someday , when she is already a practicing doctor . Thank you . We are so proud of her . She's a scholar since high school and now in Medicine through St. Luke's .

@SIMPLYD Oh and a very bright girl I'm sure you're very proud of her. My eldest also wants to become a doctor. I told him he needs to get a scholarship to do that because that will be very expensive.

@yalul070 When she graduated in BS Bio at UP Manila , she told us she wants to study Medicine . We told her we cannot afford it . But she said , don't worry Ma and Pa , i will look for a scholarship . And since she's a cumlaude and passed the exams of St. Luke's she became one of their scholars . They were 90 at the start and now they are just 20 as scholars.

@salonga I was ashamed of myself when i told her to go abroad she answered me that . I was in fact silent after that and realized our daughter is not only intelligent but she is " beautiful with a heart ' as Pia Wurztback said in Ms. Universe pageant .

Well , some are only for the prospect of working abroad . But then , majority is to be able to cure sick people and that's what makes the profession so satisfying , right ? Thank you , my dear .

@ridingbet See, mostly nurses have that in mind when they take the nursing profession . Though maybe that will be nice after serving the Filipinos first for about 5 years .

@SIMPLYD there are many doctors here who take up nursing to work abroad. i even made a nurse's car of an anesthesiologist for their picture taking and she gave me 2 cake rolls. my neurologist niece also took up nursing in 2004, but she is still here working as a neurologist. the wife of my cardiologist is also a nurse. they planned to work abroad as nurses but did not push through because they might question the doctors there about their medical interventions

You mean next month? Ah great. I am too excited to see her in the Doctors Attire. Which stream has she been pursuing? The Tele show that you mention sounds like something really good. Not too many doctors do this kind of work (at least here). I recall having watched one episode here on Indian tele - they take up a celeb, and s/he does a very basic task (that episode had a leading actor perform haircuts) and then, the total amount collected gets multiplied by some numbers (50% from the celeb and 50% from the channel) to generate a good (real good) amount for someone who needs it. I do not remember the name of that show, but it touched me to see the humane sides of our Celebs.

Thank you , i am so excited too . She said she will specially in General Surgery . Her boyfriend in Pedia . This show runs on Saturdays and Sundays . And while they are having the medical mission the hosts tackles a different medical concern for each time . Then , they will show some who have done their visitation and checking up of poor people after the previous show . It's really so heart warming , seeing them cry out of happiness of being given medical check-up , medications and laboratories and follow ups . Indeed , it is so touching when celebrities do some charitable works like that . You can see the real person in them .
