Cruising from home port

From October to April of the following year, many cruise ships make my country their homeport. That means they will start and end from my country. It is ideal for short cruises, though it is not always that easy to catch the best price. The currency fluctuation affects the pricing, since the price is quoted in USD, and translated to local currency. The USD has been going on a wild swing against many Asian currencies that are not pegged to US dollar. A difference of a week in booking the cruise can mean a difference of a few dollars to a couple of hundred dollars. The only thing great about cruising from home port is that I can reach home within an hour of departing from the ship. That certainly saves the hassle of going to the airport and waiting for flight.

We much prefer cruises that start in our home country, but they don't always go where we want.

Unless you sign up for world cruise, then you get to go everywhere, and still return home after a year.

@scheng1 I don't think I'd want to be cruising for that long.

@jaboUK There are people who sell everything, and live on board! I do not know how they manage!

That's good for you that many cruise ships are available in your country. My city is not a main port for the overseas cruise. This year there is a new cruise from my city to Vietnam. Hopefully in the future it will have more cruises. Otherwise I may have to depart from Hong Kong, Shanghai or Tianjin

@youless Large cruise liners want to find deep sea port before they can make it a home port. Many ports do not have deep water berth, and when they have, they are used as container port, not for passengers.

I doubt your place will be a home port for the large cruise vessels. It is so near to Hong Kong that the cruise lines expect people to cross over, and take the cruise from Hong Kong.
