From the iPod #40 - "More"

The one constant in Leeds' legendary goth band The Sisters of Mercy has been vocalist Andrew Eldritch, he of the fantastic deep voice, who leads a busy revolving door of bandmate's. At some point after he and bassist Patricia Morrison made Floodland, one of the best goth albums ever recorded, Eldritch tired of the goth label. He recruited a new band, featuring former Generation X and Sigue Sigue Sputnik bassist Tony James, and set out to make an actual rock record, Vision Thing. On Floodland, Eldritch had worked with producer Jim Steinman (Meatloaf, Bonnie Tyler, Air Supply) on two of that album's best tracks, and the two hooked up again for Vision Thing's tour de force, "More." Steinman's over-the-top production style works quite well with the Sisters music, and "More" is no exception. "More" is about as far from goth as it gets, featuring loud, muscular guitar play aimed at the back of the arena instead. Eldritch had performed backing vocals that same year on Gary Moore's After the War album, and apparently the experience stayed with the Sisters leader. The epic (eight-plus minutes) tune is Vision Thing's anchor. And it's really, really good, one of the Sisters' all-time great songs. Style-wise, it's nothing like anything on the Sisters' goth blueprint First and Last and Always, which is fine. Not everybody can remain goth indefinitely.

Interesting fusion with Gen X/Sigue Sigue thrown into the mix along with Jim Steinman. Wonder why he wanted to do rock, not that I disagree with that. I really would like to know the thoughts that go into these decisions

The Sisters can be a little over-the-top at times, so it works really well. I wish they'd done more than just three songs together.

@teamfreak16 Funny how it all works out, groups you really like break up for so many reasons. Groups you can't stand refuse to split

I'm pretty much obsessed with music in general, but I do love goth. Always have.

Now you are back talking my 80s language. Another big time name. You listen to this and realize grunge didn't really rock. Not like this.

No, this rocks as hard as any arena rock band from that era. Maybe harder. I just wish Andrew would release this damn new album he's been sitting on for twenty or so years. He does them all in concert anyway, so why not release it. The songs were really good when I saw them.
