I don't know if @JohnRoberts knew what he'd unleashed when he did his Top 10 Linda Ronstadt Songs series, but a couple of us have picked up the ball and run with it. @FourWalls has done an Elton John Top 10, is in the middle of a Warren Zevon series, as well as a Top 20 Merle Haggard tribute. I have one song left on my Bad Brains series.
Join in the fun. I've had so much fun that I'm starting a new Top 10, this time on the legendary alternative band The Cure.
Led by vocalist/guitarist Robert Smith, The Cure formed in the mid-70's and have been going strong ever since. They are considered a goth band, but I say no. For one thing, despite their dark, gloomy sound and outlook, Smith has wicked pop sensibilities, which often show up in his songs.
The 1987 Top 40 (peaked at 40) hit "Just Like Heaven" is one of Smith's pop songs, and it's a good one, written for his then girlfriend (and later, his wife.) It's definitely more radio-friendly than, say, "10:15 Saturday Night," and possibly the best song on the Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me album.
But it's definitely not goth.
"Just Like Heaven" is a song by the British alternative rock band The Cure. The group wrote most of the song during recording sessions in southern France in ...

I figured I'd try to go with something people have heard or at least heard of this time.

No, this is the first I've heard that they were coming here. I'd heard about a reunion, but wasn't sure when.

Now I am deliriously 80s! Talk about an iconic 80s band and lead singer. Just Like Heaven made my ongoing favorite songs list over at Persona Paper. 10:15 Saturday Night is the first song I heard from the Cure and loved it. Goth? Really? They are British new wave/alternative yet incredibly distinct sound due to Smith.

I know. Yet everybody tries to lump them in with the goth crowd for some reason.
