To upgrade or not to upgrade...

My cell phone contract will be up at the end of May, and usually my cell phone provider contacts me with a deal or special. They did send an email last month, but I must have deleted.
I decided that I would give them a call today and see what they could offer me. As it looks, they have nothing exclusive right now. Any deal available would be what a new customer would be eligible for.
Well, really they don't have anything special. For me to upgrade my phone, would cost a minimum of $100(I was expecting that) as well, I would have to increase my plan another $5-10 a month.
I was already unsure if I wanted to upgrade. Now, I am leaning more toward not upgrading as my phone works for now, and my plan is mostly sufficient, or more than I need.
Do I really need the latest phone? Not really. Would it be nice? Yes. Can I afford it? I could make it work.
I guess I have a lot of thinking to do.

That is definitely a good point. IPhone just released their newest model, so they likely won't release anything new again until next year.

@Asylum I think that may be the route I take.

That is tough. Will the offer expire if you dont make a decision soon? I havr an older phone (Samsung Galaxy s3) and they have already vome out with 3 or 4 newer versions but mine is totally OK. Also if you upgradr dont you renew the contract? What if you want to switch providers along the line? I would say be wary of that fine print!

You bring up valid points. The 'offers' the emailed me expired at some point last week, so there really is nothing special for existing customers. Contracts here are generally 2 years long, and you have a minimum plan that you have to meet to be eligible for the new phones. I could get the iphone SE(the newest one) for $100 and my plan would go up by $10 each month. At the moment, going to a new provider is not an option. So I could either upgrade, or keep my phone, and actually change my plan to $65 a month(right now my plan is $70). Like I told the rep I spoke to, I will have to think about it.
