Curly hair care for Indian girls

My hair after a wash.

There's a serious issue with the way most Indian girls take care of their curly hair. Most Indian girls brush their hair out and what could otherwise be beautiful well defined waves or curls become a mere dry poof. Through this post, I would like to discuss some broad changes that we Indian girls must make for well clumped curls like we've always wanted to rock. BEFORE I MOVE AHEAD, I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU STOP USING ANY HEAT ON YOUR HAIR ALTOGETHER. 1. Change the way you dry your hair. Stop using rough towels and other coarse fabrics on your hair. This is bound to dry your hair out and the rough material will frizz your hair out by opening your hair cuticles. Instead use a cotton t-shirt or a micro fibre towel or any soft fabric. Even an old cotton saree will help a great deal in cutting frizz. 2. Start using conditioner more often. And make sure you use conditioner that is free from silicone and sulfates. If you please, you may opt for cowashing that is a method by which we use only silicone free conditioners to wash the hair. Shampoo shall not be used except very occasionally to clarify the scalp. Mind you that only sulfate free shampoo should ideally be used. 3. Scrunch your hair. After washing and conditioning your hair take the tip of your hair and scrunch upward till the roots. This would help define your curls even more and help hair take up its natural curl pattern. Plopping or the may also be used to define curls. 4. Pineapple your hair at night to preserve your curls overnight. This basically means putting your head up in a loose ponytail at the top of your head. This would avoid the curls from rubbing against the pillows or sheets and would avoid frizz. 5. Sleep on a a satin or silk pillow cover. You may also sleep with a satin or silk bonnet or scarf on your head. This will basically prevent and reduce the friction between the hair shift and the fabric and will reduce frizz and will help retain curls and hydration. This will also give you good volume for the next day.. Feel free to ask if you wish to know the products I use or to get answers to any other questions.
