Fun Facts

I came across a few fun facts today, that I thought I would share with you. As a “trivia nut” I’m always looking for interesting facts. The first telephone directory in the U.S. was issued in February of 1878, 138 years ago, by the District Telephone Company of New Haven, Conn. This was interesting to me because I used to be a telephone operator years ago. Now, I don’t think telephone directories are still available, except online. Does anyone know if a person can still get a printed directory??? The Washington Monument in Washington D.C. USA, was dedicated in February of 1885, 131 years ago. A couple of years ago, it was damaged by an earthquake that hit Virginia. I remember that very well, since my own house rocked that day. The monument had to have repairs but is now open again to the public. A couple days ago, while still cleaning out my home office, I came across a Polaroid camera that I forgot we had. So, I looked up the information about it and found that it was first demonstrated in 1947, 69 years ago, by Edwin H. Land. It could produce a black-and-white photograph in 60 seconds. I don’t know if a person can even purchase the film for that camera anymore. Picture by Pixabay

I have been to the Washington Monument and did walk the stairs down (not up!) all the way.

I did the same. Walked down not up in the Washington Monument.

I received a printed directory a few months ago so some are still printing them. I had given my Plaroid camera away a long time ago but wish I still had it. I don't know about film.

Was the directory delivered to you automatically, or did you have to request it. We haven't gotten a directory for years.

@Marcyaz That surprises me, because we haven't had a phone directory delivered to our house in years.
