Is it wrong to have a favorite song by a band, only to have, eventually, one you like better come along? Do you still declare your allegiance to your favorite, or do you betray it for the bright, shiny new tune? That was the case with The Cure's "A Forest," and why such a great song is only #4 on my Top 10 Cure Songs series. Robert Smith (guitar, vocals) formed The Cure in 1976, and just four years later released what would be my favorite Cure song for years to come. Released as a single from the band's classic 1980 album Seventeen Seconds, "A Forest" was a minor British hit (#31) for Smith and company, and, judging by all of the live videos posted on You Tube through the years, remains quite popular with fans. This Top 10 Songs thing was started by @JohnRoberts, with heavy participation by myself and @FourWalls. Feel free to pick a band for your own Top 10. After all, the more the merrier!

I loved roller skating to songs with a driving beat like this. You'd think it would've been a hit in the US in the dance era. (Of course, there are a hundred songs I can say "that should've been a big hit" about.... )

Boy, that's got a great driving beat. Sort of different for The Cure. Maybe a little hypnotic quality to it which is why you were taken by it?

That is entirely possible. For some reason, it just struck a chord with me the first time I heard it.
