Tomato plants with leaves, flowers and few fruits

In the community garden near my house, a lot of retirees are trying their hands at gardening. Most of them are successful in growing green leafy vegetables, but nearly all fail in growing tomatoes. The tomato plants are very tall, with a lot of leaves and flowers, but hardly any fruits. In fact, the grand total of all the tomato plants produce just 5 fruits in all. I wonder what is wrong with all the plants. Perhaps it is wrong fertilizer used or just the weather.

I have no experience to plant the tomatoes. But I have seen them in the suburb. I think it shall not be a difficult vegetable to plant. But it may need a little bamboo stick so that the tomatoes can grow up with it. I wonder they need some supporters?

Yes, they have the poles to support the tomatoes, and the plants are much taller than me. Yet they do not have fruits. There are more tomato plants than fruits.

@scheng1 I think perhaps they keep the tomatoes too tall. As usually the tomato plants are not so tall. It is about to your knee. If the plants grow too tall, then they may not have enough nutrition to grow fruits. Perhaps this is the reason.

@youless Perhaps that is the reason. Since there are so few tomatoes, I do not even know what kind of tomatoes these are.

We have full sun in Singapore. These few weeks have been unreasonable hot, and the retirees in charge of the community garden waters twice a day. I think they do not put epsom salt.

It's great that elderly people get to work together growing veggies and greens .. But disappointing to hear that there are hardly any fruits at all in those tomatoe plants .. Are there bees around to pollinate the flowers? .. We always have a lot of cherry tomatoes in our garden during summer time ..

Actually tomatoes are self-pollinating. There is no need for bees. I have planted tomatoes before in high rise apartment, and I have better result than them.

They never do that. Their tomato plants have become a forest! It sure is very cooling to stand under the tomato plants.
