Today We Will Drown Some Worms

United States
April 17, 2016 6:24am CST
It is supposed to be nearly 70 degrees today. Glorious weather! Of course I have to work most of the day. When I get home at 3:45 we are venturing off to our favorite fishing hole to drown some worms. It seems that is all we did last year because the fishing wasn't great. Hoping to bring home a couple of trout today. Hubby gave me a hot pink fishing pole for Christmas and I can't wait to try it out!

Looks like fun, you just reminded me about my fishing rod, I have not used it for a long time, last time we went fishing is in a Tilapia resort but baits and poles are provided already

We go to lakes and sometimes rivers. We have our own equipment.

@ElusiveButterfly The resort we went to is just for the kids so they would experience their first catch, tilapia is not hard to catch if not one of the easiest, what's nice is the resort weighs the catch, you pay for it and you can cook it in their place, the kids really love them. I have my own equipment for more serious fishing

@louievill great fun for the kids. Love to see their faces when they catch a fish.

Outstanding have a great time. My hubby and I are going on a quick overnight fishing trip this Tuesday. The lake we are going to is about 180 miles away.

@fishtiger58 we often fish when we visit my brother. He has a river right in his back yard.

The lake we go to is about 20 minutes away. There is another that is closer, just down the road, but we have only managed to get perch and bullhead from there.

@ElusiveButterfly I live next to a river, but I prefer lakes, closest one of those to us is about 30 minutes away.

I haven't been fishing for so long I'm not sure I remember how! Mom used to take us along the river when we were kids, but that was a very long time ago. Good luck to you! (I love to eat trout!)

My mother took us when we were young too. I was taught how to gut the fish and that became my job. Still do it today.

@peavey I actually don't mind gutting the fish. Taking the fish off the hook is something that I cannot do.

Drowning worms is cruel enough, but subjecting them to a pink rod is even worse.

@ElusiveButterfly It would be cruel to the poor worm, which probably drowned itself due to embarrassment.

@Asylum we have used fake bait too or lures. We catch more with worms or night crawlers.

My rods and lines have been sitting in the shed untouched since I moved in here. I don't have a license and no-one to go fishing with.

Find yourself a local fishing pond that others frequent and make a friend or 6.

@MsTickle that's sad. Well, just grab a pole and head out to a stream. Bring a chair, a picnic lunch, and some bug spray.

@ElusiveButterfly There is a local fishing club but i would be odd (wo)man out. That makes me uncomfortable as well as the fact that the community is not what you'd call friendly.

I live right next to a public fishing creek. I get to fish anytime I want and feel very blessed. I watched the truck pull up and stock it twice this month. This year, I bought some worms so I can have a worm box and sell them to the many fishermen who stop by. I wish I had a hot pink fishing pole. I made one out of a sick and a nail for a sinker. Lol, my grandchildren fight over it. We have other poles, but they all want mine because it's a stick.

I remember using a stick with a string that had a safety pin attached to it.

I have never tried fishing before. I doubt I will learn to fish since i have no patience to wait for a single fish to get hooked. I think I will take a short cut! I will throw in the bread or chicken inlets or worms, and then wait for all the fishes to come, then I will a big net to catch all of them!

@scheng1 there is a hefty fine and also the person would lose their fishing license.

I go alone sometimes. Took my mother with me once, she was bored. She was an avid fisherman back in the day. Alzheimer's has taken away her ability to fish.

@ElusiveButterfly I might, but most likely if I was going to go somewhere like that, I'd just read and nap in the sun

I always feel sorry for the worms and maggots getting skewered on a hook, then either drowning or getting eaten by a fish - not a nice way to go

We put them live on the hook. You can actually split a worm into pieces. Put the worm back into soil and it will regrow the body.
