Interesting Theories About the Walking Dead

After the finale of Season 6 of the Walking Dead, we have more than 6 months of "dead" time before the premier of Season 7 takes place in October. That gives fans plenty of time to overthink the show and what is going on, leading to some interesting theories about the show. Here are a few:
1. The zombie apocalypse never happened. All of this is just a dream that Rick is having, who is still in a coma in the hospital.
2. The entire series is a story being told by Carl as an adult who survived the entire zombie apocalypse. Every one of our heroes are long dead, but the human species survived and re-populated. Carl is telling a new generation of people who never knew the zombie apocalypse what happened, and how our heroes saved the planet form human extinction.
3. All babies born during or after the zombie apocalypse are immune to the virus, and are safe from ever becoming zombies. Babies like Judith will grow up without the fear of ever turning. This theory could also tie into #2 above.
4. The zombie apocalypse only happened in north America. Although there were reports that this epidemic was worldwide, there has been no proof. North America has been isolated and cut off from the rest of the world as the zombie apocalypse unfolds, and the rest of humanity sits on the sidelines and watches the horror happen right before their eyes.
5. The whole thing is an alien plot to destroy mankind, and the virus was planted by aliens to wipe out humans. That's why we don't see cross-contamination into other animal species.
6. Over time, the walkers are able to mutate and adapt, becoming smarter and more lethal.
I'm sure there are probably dozens more theories, but these are a few I can remember reading about. What are your thoughts about the show? Any comments on the six theories I listed above, or do you have any theories of your own that you'd like to add?

I have never been able to watch this show. After a minute or two, I just roll my eyes and change the channel. I just don't get it, I'm afraid. Interesting how different people enjoy such things and others are repulsed by it. Odd.

I can see both sides of the issue, with those that love it and those that don't. I'm less concerned with the gory zombie violence part than I am in seeing how the survivors cope in a post-apocalyptic world. There are times when I'm watching the show and thinking that there is a very real possibility that something catastrophic like this could really happen in today's world (not zombies per se, but an apocalyptic event), and then there's other times when I think that there's no way this could ever happen. For the sake of humanity, I actually hope that nothing like this ever happens in real life! But isn't mankind due for another worldwide plague that wipes out a third to half of the population?

@ElizabethWallace I definitely see this show as being a harbinger to the future! Maybe not a zombie apocalypse, but a definite collapse of society. I truly believe it is going to happen within my lifetime. I'm not worried about me so much, but I fear for the future my kids will face. It surely looks grim.

@moffittjc I have read several stories and novels that focus on that. I took a class in science fiction literature in college. It was all prophetic stuff trying to warn society. I try not to watch this type of stuff now. It's too depressing.

2, 3 and 6 are plausible. Rick having a dream? This isn't Dallas!

But you know how Hollywood is. That's their standard answer to any shows where they can't find a plausible ending, or when they run out of story ideas, or when the story becomes so crazy that it doesn't make sense anymore! By the way, Robert Kirkman has gone on record saying this isn't a dream by Rick, so it's possible that we can actually discount that theory!

@moffittjc As long as the ratings stay so high, there will be many more seasons until an end has to be created. A more realistic effect would be Andrew Lincoln tiring of playing Rick and wanting to leave.

@JohnRoberts It is inevitable that all of those actors will probably want to leave the show at some point. But the way this show is written, it is easy to remove a character by killing them off. It will cause a big stir among the fans, but the show has been really good about introducing new favorite characters to keep the interest fresh and exciting. With the introduction of Negan, who is a fan favorite, they literally could make the entire season 7 about him. And honestly, if they did that, after a whole season of fans getting used to Negan, they could kill off Rick and have Negan take over as the leader. Don't think they will actually do that, but it's always an option.

That is a series that I never did start watching. I know that I must be one of a dozen or so who didn't.

Those are very interesting. If the show is going to continue for a few more seasons they need to get creative though they are still very much so. Eventually like all long running series, it will lose it's appeal without some twist. I didn't get cable until the middle of season 6 so need to watch the season. I'm hoping for the marathon on DISH or Netflix get it on soon.

The show has done a great job so far of keeping the plot twisting just enough to keep us hooked. It does get hard after a while to keep up the appeal, as it will get harder and harder to shock the viewers over time. But as far as material is concerned, the experts say that based on the number of comic issues that Robert Kirkman has/will have, that the show could run for at least a dozen years. That's assuming the ratings are still high.

@moffittjc I have deliberately not read this because I haven't seen any of this show yet lol I do love good zombie movies / TV shows but haven't got around to this one yet.
Would you say it's a good show? Is it still going or has it ended?

The show is still on, but I quit watching at the end of last season. Won't say anything because I don't want to give anything away. But it's a great show.

Netflix has seasons 1-5 available. Season 6 is not out yet. If you don't have Netflix, then you can pretty much just tune into AMC on Sundays and they are usually showing a marathon of the show. Sometimes they'll do a 5-week marathon where every Sunday they'll show a complete season. I don't think they're currently doing that now, but keep an eye out, they will most definitely do it before the premier of season 7 in October!
It is one of the best shows I have ever seen, and I've never been addicted to a show as much as I am to this show. And that's saying a lot considering I was a big fan of shows like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black, Sons of Anarchy, and True Blood!
