Boring Topics!

I'm still pretty new here, but I'm beginning to notice that interesting topics get maybe 0-3 answers while the really boring ones like: what's your favorite color, get anywhere from 10-hundreds of responses. I've already posted a lot of topics, and my least favorite posts always get the most answers. I thought the point here was to enjoy posting not just make money, I mean, except for the die hard posters, there isn't a lot to be made on mylot? So anybody out there willing to explain this to me? thanks.

cool! you are just new and you already realised that? well, you have to bear with it and probably i would suggest you to find some friends with discussions that interest you so that you have something to respond to...instead of those ridiculous repetitive questions. Welcome to myLot!

I'm quickly figuring this out, and I've got several great tips from people on how to find the interesting topics, thanks so much for the input!

I wish there was a topic area just for discussions worth answering among us who would enjoy a conversation with more meat and thought.

Yes, I believe it was one of the earlier posts of this thread that mentioned "Brainbusters" but now they are called "Discussions with no Responses" which means you usually get stuck with a bunch of less than a minute old posts that are still of the "what's you sign" variety. Dig a little deeper. I have already found a few good ones. I certainly wish we did have a "Brainbusters Only" category, hmm where is the suggestion box?

people are trying to make a penny...flag the bad discussions with exclamations and minus signs and sooner or later maybe they will catch on....also a lot of the people here are Indians and not to sound sterotypical but I find that if an Indian person is not wanting to be an engineer then they are wanting to sit on there butt and make pennies on the internet... Until more people with your attitude come here, one by one, then it is the money attracting people..sooner or later the site will hopefully progress to weeding them out better. with that said..here is a shameless plug for my own topics...check them out on my profile I have loads of interesing ones dating back a very long time with zero responses

Thanks, I'll try to start rating more often, and you may be right about people wanting to make their money pennies at a time. It is just inconcievable to me that the average of $10 a month or so would be enough to make anyone spend hours on here talking about nothing, most people make more than that in a hour at work. Anyway I will check out your topics, something interesting would be a nice change. Thanks again.

I understand how you feel I have felt the same and everyone else does I think. You expect some posts to get much more response and then they don't it upsets you. I think it is because not enough people rate posts and there are some discussions that are the same so sometimes people get fed up of seeing them. I don't know what the answer is I suppose rate the posts.

Yes that advice finally did make it around to me and I have been diligent to rate all of my posts and any I respond to, I hope that it will help and thank you so much!

Those 'unresponded to discussions' used to be categorized as 'brainbusters', with good reason too. A lot of people don't want to search, help, think, or even work. Some are here for fun and I will admit I enjoy playing some of the games in here and I've started some too. I'm sure there are people who joined to meet others or just share their opinion. I joined, initially, to share and help others. Now, I have met some cool people and made a little money too : ) I don't mind a "What's your Favorite" question, as long as it isn't posted 53 times! If everyone used the search feature, it would be easier to find discussions of interest and we'd have a lot less copies. I guess what I'm saying is, everyone has their own reason for being here and those reasons differ, like we all do. I think it keeps things interesting!

Well spoken, and a very diplomatic answer, lol. I suppose your right as well, I just get frustrated when in order to find one decent topic I have to sift through the thousands that come in each second. I do like the "idea" topics, where someone asks for new ideas, such as "what's a good new boad game to play?" you find lots of differing viewpoints that are interesting. Thanks for the input!

Welcome to MyLot. I wish I could explain this but I just find it annoying that I have to sift through such a lot of rubbish before I find a decent question. Luckily I've made some friends who feel the same and post interesting topics. Try qqa in the search box, it was an idea by one of my friends, although not many people seem to use it.

Thanks, I feel better knowing, I'm not the only one who gets annoyed with amount of rubbish.

thats the problem with earning money, people would rather answer a simple question in one word rather than think of something interesting to say. It can be quite annoying i've started what i thought to be interesting discussions but never get any responses

Of course, because they want the money as fast as possible, just one more version of "Milking the System" I suppose.

I donĀ“t think there may be an explanation... maybe the boring topics are the easiest to respond, since many times you have to choose between two things or options. I am searching for interesting discussions with many replies too!

Good for you, I encourage you to keep trying, this whole discussion has lifted my spirits and I am going to keep trying, who knows? It looks like I have found a few good posting people already!

I am new too and I fully agree with you. It seems the majority of questions revolve around something that is not informative. I enjoy posting and finding the answers to my questions. I like to read the responses to my discussion and respond to the "thought-out" replies. Outside of that, my advice, be unique and don't reply to the silliness.

I agree, I've already attempted to "poll" people a few times to see what sort of variety is out there, but unfortunately those tend to be the discussions with the least responses. However on the flip side, people who do take time to respond always give me well thought out answers, thank you for the advice, I'm going to try.
