I think practice makes perfect. You just have to practice more and your typing speed will get faster.
Another way is to use abbreviation.
That means you do not type out the words, but you type out the shorten version, eg "u r to do this, that, and send doc 4 AM."
Translated to "you are to do this, that and send documents for Accounts Manager."

Thank you Mr. Scheng1. Yes, that's right. The problem with is that I cannot type as fast as a speech made by someone, so I am always left behind.

@yanzalong You just have to find ways to take down the message first, and then you can take your sweet time to decode it.

Though i haven't checked my actually speed i can type really fast. I can even type fast on an old typewriter using the correct fingers designated on each characters. My grandfather trained me when i was about 8 years old. He covered all the keys of our typewriter with a masking tape and let me practice every single day by typing "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog near the bank of the river."
When I was in grade school i was exempted from typing class and became an assistant teacher instead because I know how to type without looking at the keyboard. Same thing happened in computer class when i was in high school and college.

I did the same but didn't start learning it as early as you did. I learned it since I graduated from Senior High.
