Root Canal Fears

I've gotten myself in a nice little anxiety attack now. I looked up some videos of root canals and saw how the dentist has to be so close to the patient and basically have their arms encircling their head. A big part of the reason I'm so nervous about this procedure is that its a male dentist. With very few exceptions, I can't stand being touched by any guy who isn't my fiance. The idea of spending a few hours with a guy having his arms encircling my face makes me want to scream already.
My regular dentist, a female, has made arrangements to be in the room also to help me stay calm. I'm being given valium as well...but I'm not sure either will be enough. And I have a month to obsess about this!

@enlightenedpsych2 They just numb you up, and drill it out. Of course, they are going much deeper than just a filling, drilling out the whole root of the tooth. So, it is rather long, but I never felt any pain. It's just the annoying drilling, and having to sit there with your mouth open for so long.

I have suffered through 2 root canals. They weren't parties.
