Marriage is an auspicious function which binds the relationship not only between the bride and bridegroom but is seen transcending the other social barriers. Its area of influence will bind two families and all relatives of both the families.
But, it is a peculiar tradition in Bengal Weddings. Though we can not give an explanation for the baffling tradition but we all should accept that there is a truth somewhere as nobody will prohibit anybody from seeing a marriage function.
It is true that in Bengali Weddings the mother of a bride will not be allowed to see the marriage of her daughter. It is just because her sight of the marriage will cause harm to her daughter.

They say that it works as an evil eye on the family life of her own daughter...

That's sad , because the family should all be there to witness this memorable event in a woman and man's life

She can see and enjoy the company of the couple after the marriage is over. They are far advanced in their culture than any of the Cultures in the world.

This is perplexing as in Indian weddings, the presence of both the parents is in fact seen as an auspicious thing and both parents witness the wedding and bless the new couple. In South Indian weddings, in fact, both parents sit in the mandapam while the wedding ceremony ensues. Why the Bengalis have this bizarre tradition is beyond my understanding.

For me also. But, there may be some reason or interpretation for this.
