Consoling scriptures from the Bible can help you recover from feelings of sadness. You might want to mark these scriptures in your Bible or print this page and when you feel sad, take a few minutes to read these comforting scriptures, and in prayer, ask for calmness and peace to enter your heart. God is LOVE and HE will comfort you. Isaiah 41:10: “Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not gaze about, for I am your God. I will fortify you. I will really help you. I will really keep fast hold on you with my right hand of righteousness.” Psalm 94:19: “When anxieties overwhelmed me, you comforted and soothed me.” Another version of that scripture: “When my disquieting thoughts became many inside of me, your own consolations began to fondle my soul.” 1 Corinthians 10:13: “No temptation has come upon you, except what is common to men. But God is faithful and he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear…he will also make the way out so that you may be able to endure it.” Matthew 10:29-31: “Do not two sparrows sell for a coin of small value? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. But the very hairs on your head are all numbered. Therefore have no fear. You are worth more than many sparrows.” If you believe in God and I hope you do, pray for his help when you feel sad and HE will comfort you. Picture by Pixabay
Is God accessible to the depressed? How can the depressed get comfort from God? What if feelings of unworthiness make us think that our prayers are not being heard?

Thank you for sharing this list. I have been struggling with some depression recently, and have been reminding myself to meditate on applicable Scripture. If I may, I'd like to add this one to your list: “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.” Isaiah 43:2 KJV Sometimes depression is a quiet wilderness, but sometimes it's an overwhelming flood. I'm glad there are verses for both cases.

@IreneVincent This article is a good resource. Yes, the Scripture references are helpful. Also, I like how it anticipates many questions and problems those who are struggling with depression might have. Questions about things like unworthiness and getting prayers answered are all handled thoroughly, concisely and frankly. Above all, I appreciate that it doesn't belittle the journey by implying there's a simple solution like, Have more faith!
