Short curtain rod? No problem!

If you buy a curtain rod that turns out to be just a few inches shorter and if you were to extend them to their maximum length, become weak in the center and not strong enough to hold the curtain without bowing down, there is a simple solution besides just buying a longer one that probably will cost a lot more to replace it.
Just find a small wood dowel that is small enough to place inside the two ends and still allow for making adjustments in width. The idea is to use a wood dowel that is large enough to add center strength to the connected curtain rods when you need that extra few inches, and small enough to allow the two ends to in and out of each other. The thing to remember is:
Make certain the rod you insert fits into the smaller hole of the two curtain rod ends.
It is a fact that most curtain rods are too short when you buy them and usually we go back to make an exchange.
If you want something stronger than a wood dowel they make foot long metal rods and sell them in the hardware departments where they carry threaded and basic metal rods for general purpose use in most home improvement stores or hardware and lumber stores.

Actually we are having that problem right now. I will have to see if I can use this technique. :)
