Top 10 New Order Songs #9 - "Angel Dust"

I'm hard-pressed thinking of others, but not many musicians can say they've been in even one highly influential band, let alone two of them. Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Stephen Morris can. They were 3/4 of legendary post-punk band Joy Division, which a lot of people credit for inventing goth, and although it was more likely that it was Bauhaus, an argument could certainly be made for Joy Division. After Joy Division vocalist Ian Curtis hung himself, those three, along with Morris' girlfriend, keyboardist Gillian Gilbert, regrouped as New Order, which influenced many an 80's electronic dance band. Case in point: "Angel Dust," from their 1986 album Brotherhood. It was not released as a single, and is overshadowed by that albums big hit (and vastly overplayed,) "Bizarre Love Triangle." And yet, "Angel Dust" is highly danceable in it's own right, maybe even more so than that dance floor hit. He's not a soloist, but I think "Angel Dust" features some of Bernard Sumner's best guitar work. (They might be thought of as an electronic dance band, but those electronic's were always augmented by live instrument's.) And while I never have to hear "Bizarre Love Triangle" again, I still love listening to "Angel Dust." (Note: "Blue Monday" will not be a part of this series, simply because I just wrote about it a couple days ago.) These Top 10 series' were started by @JohnRoberts, and they are a lot of fun. Feel free to join in!

Hey, Bizarre Love Triangle is a favorite of mine and I have never tired of it. Dave Grohl comes to mind. From Niravan to Foo Fighters.

Aha, I didn't even think of Grohl. It's not that I don't like "Bizarre Love Triangle," I do, but I've heard it so many times that I need a long break from it.

How about Chris Cornell? Soundgarden then Audioslave.

@JohnRoberts - Yep, he didn't come up in my remembering either. No one did. Don't know why, because I dig him.

I wonder why so many don't seem to be released as singles. Would they be doing that now?

A lot of their early stuff were singles only. Not sure if they still do that.

@teamfreak16 Vinyl is making a bit of a comeback, over here, and sales are going up. Maybe the single will beat the download!
