When do you feel is the best time to completely give up driving. I understand its very difficult to convince especially an elderly at home for this... But we all know with age, the human body starts getting weak by getting all sorts of health issues like Diabetes, Arthritis, Heart problems, Parkinsons, Vision issues etc... And at the same time, it becomes necessary to convince then for their safety to give it up, but it gets very emotional too... So friends any suggestions for this please ?

I remember my law professor teaching us the Philippine Constitution. At that time he was over 70 and was still driving. He even challenged us on a car race! But honestly, he drove quite slow. It was only when he was hospitalised that he quit driving. They're really stubborn and it's quite difficult to convince them. Maybe when i reached that age, it would be difficult to convince me to stop driving as well. But let me put this now in my journal, I'll quit driving at the age of 60. How's that?

Well, I can understand... and did read somewhere that students generally follow their teachers religiously... so its a perfect decision...

It seems to vary from person to person. I know folks who have driven into their 90s. But some people lose vision or maybe the ability to react a lot sooner.

I've never had a driver's license. When I was 14, a Traumatic Brain-Injury made me partially-blind in one eye; and--though I could drive if I really wanted to--I personally think that my loss-of-vision makes me too potentially-dangerous (even on a good day, accidents happen) to risk it. For whoever it is you want to maybe ask-to-stop: tell them everything that's wrong with them and ask them to imagine what would happen if they had a flare-up at a crucial moment. Actually, my TBI was caused by an old driver who was distracted (maybe by 'old man'-problems) and SLAMMED INTO ME

I think we can just educate them that driving should be stopped. Taking the credit of what will be the possible accidents if continued to drive for the elder population.

yes its the much-needed thing but to convince them gets very difficult, it makes them feel as if they are of no use now... but we all know its not the truth...

When you feel you can no longer drive than you should quit driving. There is not a certain age to quit.
