Overpriced Seminars

I attended a seminars for advanced management last week, paid for by the company. The morning session costs about Php1,699.00, while the afternoon session costs Php 1999.00 both exclusive of 12% value added tax. So both costs around Php 4,000, which is pretty reasonable considering the amount of learning you can get by attending. However, I can say we didn't get our money's worth. It was interesting, the speaker was good but she just touched the basics and she prevented us from taking down notes, recording, and taking pictures and videos, saying she'll provide us with hard copies of the lesson. Well I waited for a CD or a brochure but nothing. They did handed me certificates but I needed the hard copies for future references. The seminar was held at a 4-star hotel but I almost passed out before we started because I felt like I was running out of oxygen. The free snacks provided in the morning was ok. But the snacks in the afternoon was cinnamon bread that tasted like cardboard and seemed like it was baked two days before it was difficult to chew. The staff was friendly and the waiter was good looking. I also got a free book for being an early bird. So it may be a bit overpriced, but it was still a nice learning experience. Thanks to my Boss!

but how will you be able to share at work what you learned if you will only rely on what you remembered hearing? have you tried following up with the speaker for the hard copies of the seminar?

I did but sad to say the hard copies are not included in the package. You have to pay for them.
