Every now and then I decide to lighten my load. This weekend I started by culling books and ended up taking 20 pounds of books to Powell's Bookstore to sell. I got $13, treated myself to food-cart dinner and headed home.
Today in the load-lightening process, I came across some travel journals I kept from trips across the American southwest with an ex-boyfriend. This discovery has inspired me to set up a blog and publish them online. I haven't started the blog yet and will post a link later when I have something to show.
Do you keep a journal when you travel?

It's never too late to start. I only journal on my travels, and then not every time. These trips were taken between 1998 and 2006, so they're somewhat recent. I don't think I kept travel journals before these.
For years, I did write journals of my daily struggles, sort of like keeping a diary, but I eventually destroyed all those writings. Probably a good thing, too. It was like letting go of old troubles.

@blitzfrick That's a very wise thing that you said there - letting go of old troubles. If they were unhappy times there's no point in remembering them.

@jaboUK Absolutely. I felt much lighter when I got rid of them.

I never have been successful at journals, so gave up. Think about Blog Job if you set one up. A number of people from this and other sites we used to know write there.

I'm not sure that I'd have kept journals of these trips if I'd been driving. As it was I had time and opportunity. I recently took a short trip to your part of the world and wrote not a scratch.

I do keep a travel diary. I often forget to write in it but I hit the high spots.
