I Did It

What did I do? I went to church this morning. I know that is something I always do, more Saturday night lately than Sunday morning, but I really didn't think I would get there today and was ready to listen to the stream.
The reason I didn't know if I would make it was the time I went to bed this morning. My son got done with work at 3 AM and I didn't get to bed before 3:30. I knew I wouldn't make it to the early service. No way was I just going to get two hours of sleep, and be awake enough to pay attention in church.
I woke up at 9:15, church was at 10:30 - the last service. The first service starts at 9. I also didn't know if I should go because I needed to take my medication first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Doing that would have caused problems with going to church, which is why I go on Saturday night now. I don't need to worry about my once a week medication I take with a full bottle of water. So I decided not to take the medication until after church, and got ready and left.
I was proud of myself. I got ready and out the door by ten to and got there just before the first service was out.
Of course that meant taking my medication as soon as I got home so I could eat at a reasonable time. I need to wait an hour before eating anything after taking the medication.
I was so glad I went. The service was very good, as it usually is, with a baby dedication, and the pastor threw in some jokes to start his sermon that had the congregation roaring with laughter. All leading into his sermon.
I will leave you with this thought: God does not lack for anything. He doesn't need anything from us. Yet when we all come together in one place to give him praise and worship, we give him something he never had before - praise and worship from the group of people assembled at that time.
You might wonder how that can be, but think about that for just a moment. When you gather for the service, it is not always the same people. There will always be a different mix of people, so the praise and worship is never completely the same. So when you praise God, you are giving him something he never had or heard before.
That was the profound statement the worship leader had for us today. It was told him last night. And it is just awesome to think about. I had to admit, I have never been to the 10:30 service before, so I was a new face in that crowd praising my God.
What did you do today you didn't think you would be able to do? Thanks for reading.
