Top 10 Favorite New Order Songs #3 - "True Faith"

Ever since the three surviving members of Joy Division (guitarist/vocalist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris,) reformed (with keyboardist Gillian Gilbert) as New Order, the band has had a habit of releasing singles that do not appear on a studio album. "True Faith" was released as just such a single, not intended for inclusion on a proper record, rather, it was used as a new single for the band's 1987 singles compilation, Substance. The highly danceable "True Faith" managed to accomplish what no other New Order single had done to that point: it cracked the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Even better, it gave New Order their first US Top 40 hit, peaking at #32 (and, "True Faith" hit #4 in the UK, where their singles always performed well.) The bizarre accompanying video received play not only on MTV's Sunday night alternative show 120 Minutes (where it was revealed that said bizarre video was directed by a part-time clown,) but infiltrated the channel's regular, mainstream rotation as well. Oddly, the band's "Blue Monday" is the biggest-selling 12" single in history, yet it was "True Faith" that became the band's first US hit. @JohnRoberts started these fun Top 10 Series'. You are more than welcome, encouraged, even, to join the fun.
High quality audio. Note, this is the longer version taken off the 'Best of'.

Thank you. I don't want to keep using "studio album" all the time.

@Ronrybs - Oh, the only Brits I've hung out with were a couple girls we met at the Reading Festival, and they mimicked us more than we did them.

@teamfreak16 I'd have to hear how you say it, I could then say if you've been hanging around with Brits!

I remember liking the sounds of both bands but never really getting to know them well.

I am the opposite, I think I might have gotten into both a little too much, if that's possible.

It is not the official video, which used the radio edit. This is the full version of the song.

This is a great one. I think it was more successful hit wise than Blue Monday because its more upbeat than Blue Monday which is rather somber.

That's true. I've always thought "Blue Monday" sounds kind of angry, even musically. You're right.
