I remember pretty well when my father toom delivery of a V.P.P parcel by paying Rs.250/- for satisfying my ambition towards the collection of Stamps. The stamps collecting is a good hobby. It is not only a hobby but also reflects the economic, social and cultural information of a country. A Stamp is a small piece of self-adhesive paper which is purchased and used on an article or mail showing the evidence that the postal charges have been paid. They will be rectangular in shape and sometimes they will be triangular and in other shapes also. At the time of delivery of a mail the postal Dept., makes a mark over the stamp called 'cancellation stamp' which prohibits its re-usage. The cancellation mark contains the source of origin and the date. Before postage stamps, there were ink and hand stamps. The first adhesive stamp was introduced in 1840 in Great Britain and Ireland with the name 'PENNY BLACK'. LONDON PENNY POST It was in 1680 William Dockwra introduced this mail system that delivered articles and mail within England on payment of a Penny. The first country to issue the postage stamp was the united Kingdom of England in the year 1840 with the engraving of young Queen Victoria. The first stamp did not need to show the name of issuing country and the Great Britain is the only country that omits its name on postage stamp. In 1970 three Dimensional and Multi-Dimensional Stamps were also introduced. With the constant development of technology and with the introduction of Computers, in particular, the glory of postage stamps declined rapidly. The collection of postage stamps has become one's own sweet memories.
