admittance of stupidness

I was wasting time this morning on the bus by reading the news on my BBC mobile phone app. There were the usual stories: Trump's success; should we, or should we not, be in the EU; junior doctors striking ... and then, nestled snuggly in between two other stories of nothing much was another story which I shall call, why on earth would you want the world to know this?
A young-ish couple made a boo-boo. In her haste to book a surprise flight to take her fiancé to Las Vegas for his thirtieth birthday, the lass of the pairing forgot to check the flight details. When the couple happily arrived at Birmingham {England} airport to catch their flight they discovered the flight didn't exist. Oopsy. She'd booked a flight to Las Vegas, via Texas, from Birmingham, Alabama.
And now the whole world knows. They went to Amsterdam instead, but the article made a point of stressing how long and hard she'd saved her money up. The cynic in me asks why they couldn't have used the credit card they used to book flights and hotel and food for Amsterdam, to find different flights to America, and thus not lose the money they spent on accommodation. Maybe they're hoping some kind soul will give them the money they lost.
Am I just too cynical?

@Poppylicious Of course not - I think you even posted before me. But it was such a ridiculous story that I'm not surprised we both wanted to post about it.

Yep, but do they go running to the media to let everyone and his dog know?!

jest pitiful that they felt the need to not only get't out'n the open, but that such made the news to begin with. 'n this day'n time, it'd not shock me that they do indeed think some kind soul'll come'n wave their magic wand 'n pay fer such a trip.

Too true. It's not really news is it. That didn't even cross my mind ... I make lots of mistakes but none are any less newsworthy than this. I must remember to contact the media when I next make an Oopsy! ;)

@poppylicious How embarrassing is that!! I heard of a girl thinking she was booking a flight to Parma but arriving in Palma.

That's probably the sort of thing I would do. I just wouldn't tell anyone. *ssshhh*
