ESPN. com reporter Adam Schefter reports the news that current free agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has told people close to him he "would rather not play football" under the current offer the Jets management is offering him to remain with the team in 2016 which is about $7-8 million dollars. Fitzpatrick is seeking a salary of $15-$16 million dollars to return to the team before the start of the 2016 football season. Fitzpatrick has not decided whether to sit out the year or retire from the league if the Jets cannot reach an agreement to sign him to a new contract. New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan said last week signing Fitzpatrick is the top priority but he acknowledged "it may take some time" before the Jets can reach a contract agreement with the 33 year old quarterback in time before the start of the 2016 football season. The Jets could be drafting a quarterback in the 2016 National Football League Draft that begins on Thursday in Chicago Illinois. The current Jets quarterbacks on their active roster are Geno Smith and Bryce Petty. Even though the Jets ended the 2015 football season with a record of 10 wins and six losses they did not qualify to make it to the playoffs after they lost to the Buffalo Bills in the last regular season game by a final score of 22-17.

The money is awesome but losing isn't. The 7-8 million he does not get every penny of it. there is taxes and insurance which the nfl has crap insurance. most of the time players are stuck with the bill when they get injured.

@davidalicea100 Yes, it's a slap in face of regular people earning crap wages who pay taxes and Obamacare and are desperate for a raise to 15 bucks and this guy thumbs his nose at millions because it's a losing team. Boo-hoo. Try flipping burgers Ryan Fitzpatrick.

His health is more important than money. After retirement most these guys are broke and become average joe again. and have health issues.

@Deepizzaguy they demand the huge money because of the crap insurance the nfl provides for them. Players have spoken about it Dez bryant has said if i get hurt you guys wont help me at all just toss me away increase my salary so i can at least get the medical attention i need. I forget the link but the nfl is shady on that they treat there players like garbage.

I agree with you David. I have heard many football players saying they want a huge salary that the market value commands to feed their family. I do not blame them.
