#7 in my Top 10 Favorite Reggae Songs series keeps us in Jamaica, with my favorite reggae band, Black Uhuru (Uhuru is Swahili for "freedom.")
Black Uhuru is a Grammy-winning roots reggae band formed in the early 1970's. Led by vocalist Duckie Simpson (the only constant in the band's history,) reggae stalwarts Michael Rose (vocals,) Sly Dunbar (drums,) and Robbie Shakespeare (bass) have all called the band home.
A lot of the time, Black Uhuru will release a dub album to accompany a new studio album.
So it was with 1987's album Positive, released along with The Positive Dub, which contains "The Conceptual Dub."
I love listening to dub, and I've listened to a lot of it over the years. They've stripped "The Conceptual Dub" down and added just the right amount of echo. It's also got the most wicked-cool keyboards you're apt to hear all day.
And tomorrow, for that matter.
Black Uhuru - Conceptual Dub. we all loves abit of dub :) also check out my page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Nemesis-HiFi/294300170599782 :) thanks!

Definitely different sounding than most reggae, or the reggae I am used to listening to. I think to many reggae artists sound the same. To many try to sound like Bob Marley and just can't pull it off. Then there is Rasta and I am not a big fan of that style. To much like hip hop where they do not say anything. I think that is why so many prefer Ska.

Yeah, I only really like roots and dub. The only dancehall guys I really listen to are Yellowman and Pato Banton.

Yeah, they've been around for awhile. I got to see them in Boulder. It was the Duckie Simpson, Don Carlos, and Garth Dennis lineup.
