Goodbye to a Good Friend

Last April 27, our company was greeted with bad news. Our former offset operator passed away due to lung cancer stage 4. I was affected the most because Kuya Raffy was one of my mentors after I was promoted to production manager and still going through transition. He taught me a lot about dealing with possible problems that usually arise in everyday operations. He gave me the support I needed at that time. He gave me sound advice whenever he thinks I need one. He believed in me even if I did not believe in myself. The moment I heard he had cancer, I was so crestfallen and prayed for a miracle. I never had the courage to visit him at the hospital for I knew I would surely fall apart. I did call him on the phone and we were talking and crying while we spoke words of encouragement to each other. Him telling me it will be alright, and me begging him to be strong and keep the faith. His battle against the Big C was short, I don't know if we should be thankful for that, but he was diagnosed in March and died after 2 sessions of chemotherapy. I posted on social media asking for financial support and friends gave their share just to keep him alive. Kuya Raffy left the company a few years back and he and my boss, Sir Tom, had some differences and they haven't been speaking for a while. But after hearing his situation, Sir Tom, made an effort to help him and even wrote him a letter that Kuya Raffy's widow shared when we came at his wake. We all know that Kuya Raf played a major role in keeping the company going especially during hard times. His skill is one of the best among his peers and he never made a quarrel among any of his co-workers. He has been a good example of a good family man, and a good friend. Until now, I still find it hard to believe that such a good man is gone. But as the saying goes, Time heals all wounds. So goodbye for now, Kuya Raffy, but your legacy will live on. God bless your soul.
