I find it insulting as a Filipino that my country's candidates for presidency (or for any positions for that matter) have reduced their campaigns to creating catchy jingles and dancing on stage over a cheering crowd instead of fully laying out their plans for the incoming and inevitable future. Has the Filipino people really been reduced to that of a child that we need to be constantly entertained by these charlatans just to gain our votes? Is there not a better way for us to get to know our candidates other than seeing them dancing, singing and performing ridiculous acts of entertainment - Last time I checked, it is a political position they're fighting for not a spot in a game show.

Hard to imagine that such crowds can become President, and represent a country. At least a President must have the dignity and be serious about the problems facing the country.

I know - it's just crazy. embarrassing even. I still don't get it what a lot of voters find it "comforting" to vote for candidates who does ridiculous public stunts. I pay taxes, so I guess I deserve to see someone who knows where to put my money right? So does everyone else's money. It's heartbreaking actually.

@slayer08 This just shows the standard of the population in the country. If everyone gets university education, they will talk about serious matter.

@scheng1 that's the thing, a lot of people are educated but since majority of the population are not the educated pacify those who are not and use them for their own political agenda. I feel bad just saying it but i really hate what's happening.

Maybe it is a demand and supply. Or the candidates think that people need it.

@slayer08 Wow! Then you should try to find out how they use the income from people's tax.

maybe.. but I certainly don't. I just want to see my taxes used for the right reasons. in Asia, philippines has the highest tax deducted from our salaries but we are still far behind.

@hoong143 well, to the pockets of officials that's where.. I think the philippines need a really tough ruler to do away with all the corrupt ones for us to have a better future.

It's been like that ever since, the songs were annoying and they should be sued for intellectual property. Because mostly filipinos are just not smart in listening to platforms, or some of them just don't believe in promises anymore. What is even more upsetting is that most only care what they will get from the candidate, but still vote their choice. there shouldn't be vote buying in the first place. Some Filipinos just insult themselves by selling themselves but they just don't care.

I agree - here in our town, the annoying jingles play 24/7 and I just can't believe people buy it. I have everything against the government on our country because every Filipino is a contributor to taxes even the ones who do not work - they still pay taxes thru VAT which is in every item we buy. So I can't seem to understand the reverence politicians get when they're in power - it's ridiculous!
